She was born in Germany and has a background in film and TV studies and creates disorientating digital platforms mixing real, virtual and online spaces, combined with surveillance interfaces and technology.
Above is Andrea Zapp's Human Avatars (2006) which formed part of StoryRooms, an international Exhibition on Networking and Media Art which she cureated for The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, from October 2005 to January 2006.

Andrea Zapp will be showing the work locally via a LAN connection at the summer festival at the GI in Moscow on the 16th of June and then travel on to the Urals, to set up the work as a networked link between theUral State University (Ekaterinburg) [link] and South Ural State University (Chelyabinsk) [link]

In 2005 she has been appointed Senior Lecturer for Media Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Andrea Zapp has won awards, among others, from the Arts Council (2004 and 2002), BKA (Vienna, 2003), Leverhulme Trust (2002), Honorary Mention, Prix Ars Electronica (2000).
In 1997 she was artist in residence at the Future Lab of the Ars Electronica Centre in Linz.
