Here, from May 2006, we will be developing a documentation of SUPER VISION, a large-scale multi-media theatre piece by The Builders Association [link] and dbox [link].

SUPER VISION engages with the negotiation of 'self' in a digital society, with the performance of 'data bodies': 'bodies, separate from our physical bodies and infiinitely more accessible, existing in a "data space" ... inherently more complex than the visual'

Incorporating extensive interviews with members of The Builders Association, James Gibbs of dbox, and company associates, recorded during SUPER VISION's presentation at the BAM Next Wave Festival, New York December 2005, this documentation will map the development of this project and its complex engagement with live and mediated presence.

Interviews recorded and documentation edited by Nick Kaye

SUPER VISION tells three stories

'1. As he crosses successive borders, a solitary traveller gradually is forced to reveal all of his personal information, until his identity becomes transparent, with no part of his life left outside the boundaries of datasurveillance.'

'2. A young woman, addicted to the white noise of constant connection, maintains a long-distance relationship with her Grandmother. As she makes efforts to digitally archive her Grandmother's past, the Grandmother slips into senility.'

'3. A father covertly exploits his young son's personal data to meet the demands of the family's lifestyle. This ploy escalates beyond the father's control, until he is compelled to disappear. His wife and son are left with a starkly diminished data portrait, and his escape is shadowed by the long reach of the datasphere.'
