Cockpit presents: Judith, A Parting from the Body
With Tinarie Van Wyk Loots, Claire Watling and Stephen Jennings
THE DIRECTOR: Geoffrey Hyland studied theatre (Performance and Directing) in South Africa and Canada. He has directed over 100 productions, including Dance and Opera, garnering several Fleur Du Cap nominations as “Best Director”. He has also received the “Standard Bank Young Artist Award” for Drama. Hyland currently lectures at the University of Cape Town's Drama Department and also directs professionally. Recent highlights include Macbeth, Twelfth Night and As You Like It for Maynardville Open-Air Theatre; as well as Madame de Sade, Othello, Hamlet, King Lear and Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Howard Barker productions include 2 stagings each of (Uncle) Vanya and Women Beware Women, as well as The Possibilities. In July/ August Hyland will be staging Kissed by Brel at the Jermyn Street Theatre, London. Hyland will be directing Judith: a Parting from the Body as part of the Howard Barker 21 for 21 Festival. He is also presenting a paper in the ‘Shakespeare and Africa’ seminar at the British Shakespeare Association in September. |
