13 Objects: Studies in Servitude
Howard Barker takes 13 ordinary objects as the stimulus for a series of short plays that explore the hypnotic power such everyday items can possess for people in extreme and overwhelming circumstances. Each object becomes charged with a talismanic power as the characters experience a dizzying range of complex emotions, expressed through Barker’s brilliant and unique poetic language and black humour. DMU@BMC BA Performing Arts students are staging 7 of these 13 short plays.
Performed by De Montfort University BA Performing Arts students

This innovative and interdisciplinary course engages with contemporary theatre and dance in both theory and practice. In 2008 the students staged a full production of Barker’s The Last Supper, directed by Peter Groves.
