“Barbette” was a joint production of the drama department of the Universität Hildesheim and the Stadttheater Hildesheim that premièred on 2nd November 2002. It was an original performance based on Jean Cocteau’s essay “Le numeró Barbette” and a series of excerpts of prose and music related to the fascination of androgyny and the “third sex”. It included texts by Plato, Honoré de Balzac, Virginia Woolf, Georgette Dee and music by Friedrich Hollaender, Tim Fischer and The Tiger Lillies.
