Homesongs/Heimatgesänge was a performance commissioned for the international festival of performance art, transeuropa 2003 in Hildesheim (http://www.transeuropa-festival.de/2003/en/index.html) In the project Homesongs, students from Dartington College of Arts, UK, York St. John College, UK, Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, NL, and the University of Hildesheim, DE, explored similarities and differences in their songs and images of the intangible concept we call “home” or “Heimat”. The group of eleven students had not only different national and regional backgrounds, but also a series of different aesthetic backgrounds - aesthetic homes. Home/Heimat is an abstract concept, formed by social interactions and influenced by all our senses. Through these, it can be experienced and communicated. The theatre as a social art form is the platform to explore Home. This project set up its “Home-Laboratory” on an indoor tennis court of the local club Eintracht Hildesheim. This setting provided an atmosphere of sweat and competition, of victory and defeat, and turned Home into a rather sportive concept. Whose Home runs faster, wider, higher, better? With: Amanda Horton (GB), Anna Hertling (Hildesheim, D), Gillian Foley (GB), Heather Mcclelland (GB), Josephine Yeboah (GB), Kathrin Feldhaus (Hildesheim, D), Laura Pace (GB), Lynette Oakey (GB), Paul Grace (York, GB), Tania Mountney (GB) Texts
