Prof. Gabriella Giannachi

I joined the Exeter Drama Department in September 2004 following nine years as a Lecturer in Theatre Studies at the University of Lancaster. Prior to that, I worked as a dramaturg, reviewer and reader for various Italian theatre festivals, companies, publishers and journals (such as Hystrio, L’Indice and Linea d’Ombra). I have a BA from Turin University and a PhD from Cambridge University where I researched the role of silence in modern drama.

My areas of expertise are contemporary performance, dramaturgy, and new media. I have also a strong interest in ubiquitous computing and as an investigator in the RCUK-funded digital economy hub Horizon project (Nottingham University). I am currently researching mixed reality performance, locative media, digital footprints and the digital economy. I welcome research students in all these areas.
