I am currently Head of the School of Arts, Languages and Literatures (SALL) and Dean Designate of the University's College of Humanities, which will be established on 1st August 2010. I joined Exeter Drama in July 2004 as Professor of Performance Studies following five years as Chair in Drama at the University of Manchester. My research focuses on the history of post-war experimental performance, with emphasis on the relationship between theatre and the development of ideas and practices through distinct but related disciplines, including sculpture, architectural theory, conceptual and performance art, aspects of experimental music, installation, video art and video installation. I am also Principal Investigator for Performing Presence: from the live to the simulated, a large-scale collaborative research project funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council from 2005-9 and which is led in collaboration with Professor Gabriella Giannachi of Drama here at Exeter, Professor Michael Shanks of the Archaeology Centre at Stanford University and Professor Mel Slater of the Deparrtment of Computer Science at University College London. I welcome PhD supervisions in any areas of contemporary performance and performance-related visual art or interdisciplinary studies. |
