OCTOBER 19 AND 20 A FESTIVAL of NEW WRITING in the DRAMA DEPARTMENT.

Following the success of last year's platforms on playwriting and dramaturgy, we're hosting a little festival of new writing for the theatre, in partnership with Writernet. There will be performances on the Friday evening, and on the Saturday we have platforms by visiting speakers and two performances. Guest speakers include David Prescott from Plymouth Theatre Royal, Anna Coombs from Hall for Cornwall, Nikki Sved from Theatre Alibi, Graham Ley from Exeter University, Sheila Hannon from Show of Strength, Marc beeson from MED Theatre, The Brewhouse Taunton, Forest Forge Writers, Theatre Upstairs.

This festival is about script and writer development and we are committed to developing a supportive critical discourse for writers through showing and discussing new work. While it is open to members of the South West New Writing Network, anyone wanting to come should contact me for information and an application form.

PLAYWRITING AND DRAMATURGY RESEARCH SEMINARS / SYMPOSIA

During the academic year 2006-7 the Department of Drama held a series of seminars and platforms concerned with writing and dramaturgy.  We set our remit quite broadly, but our focus was primarily on writing for live performance.  Each seminar or platform featured speakers who spoke about their practice, and a respondent who convened the event and also drew out the key questions and problematics.

Each speaker was asked to set out their argument in a short paper, and those were posted on this site, as the events took place.
