Using Express 125 Lighting Desk - Basics

Turning Power On

The power for the Express and all the dimmer racks is controlled by the black switch behind the door of the rack room (the one on the right).

Turning Lanterns on

e.g. [Channel] [1] [Thru] [9] [Except] [4] [At] [7] [5] sets channels 1 - 3 and 5 - 9 at 75%.
[Channel] [5] [And] [2] [5] [And] [3] [0] [Thru] [3] [5] [Full] sets channels 5, 25 and 30-35 at 100%

NB [Channel] [2] [At] [5] [Enter] sets channel 2 at 50%

Trackpad

Use the large pad to increase or decrease the level. The top small pad gives “rough” control, the bottom smooth pad gives more accurate control.

Captured Channels

…are channels that you have selected and are live on stage. They remain live until you press [Rel] to release them. Captured channels override all other channel settings. For example, if a channel is in a cue at 80% and you set it to 50%, you have captured it, and it remains at 50%, until you release it. Press [Rel] twice to release all captured channels.

Selected Channels

…are channels over which you have immediate keypad control. Selected channels are displayed in yellow, and their levels are red on white. If you select channels in live mode (ie on stage), they will be captured. If you select channels in Blind mode, they won’t be captured. Press [Rel] once to release selected channels.

Recording Memories

Express can record up to 600 lighting cues. Once you have set up your lighting state as above, press [Record] [Cue] [Cue number] [Enter] and the lighting state on stage will be recorded as that cue number.
You can have “point cues” as well (if you’ve recorded cues 8 and 9 and need a new cue between, you can have 8.5 and 8.6 etc.)

e.g.      [Channel] [8] [At] [5] [Enter] [Record] [Cue] [1] [2] [Enter] records cue 12 with channel 8 at 50%
[Record] [Cue] [8] [.] [5] [Enter] records the state onstage as Cue 8.5

Recording Fade Times

Each cue has a fade time which the length of time the fade takes to complete. There is an uptime (for channels coming up in this cue) and a downtime (for channels going down from the previous cue).

e.g.      [Cue] [6] [Time] [7] [Enter] [1] [2] [Enter] sets cue 6’s uptime to 7 seconds and its downtime to 12 seconds.

[Cue] [1] [2] [Time] [6] [Enter] [Enter] sets cue 12’s up and down times to 6 seconds.

Blind Mode

Lets you work on cues without affecting the look on stage.

e.g.      [Blind] [2] [Channel] [1] [3] [And] [1] [5] [Full] [Record] [Enter] records cue 2 with channels 13 and 15 at Full
