This academic year David is convening the following modules DRA2058 Experimental Music Theatre. It also reflects on the specifics of devising processes based on musical principles and/or notations. DRA3064 Commedia dell'Arte and its impact on the European Arts. Commedia dell´Arte is one of the most fertile and prolific periods of theatre history. The European history of the arts owes numerous artistic impulses to her with regard to theatrical modes of performance, physicality, improvisational techniques, development of masks, development of characters and types.
In this module we will first gather key characteristic of the commedia dell'arte through a number of sources and representations. Then we will look at a number of examples of artworks and performances which show the influx and imprint of the CdA. Amongst these are: opera, literature and film, from the mid 18th to the mid 20th century. |
